POSITION SUMMARY:

Behavior Technicians work under the supervision of Intervention/Behavior Specialists. Behavior Technicians provide support to a specific student within the student’s assigned classroom or program. The purpose of this support is to facilitate implementation of a student’s Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) and assist the student in learning more socially acceptable behaviors. Behavior Technicians will model for district staff the implementation of specifically identified interventions. They will provide ongoing feedback and coaching to staff, with the intent to fade this level of support and move to gradual release of responsibility for BIP implementation to district staff. The Behavior Technician will take direction from the Intervention Specialist and will report to the Director of Special Education.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associates Degree in an area of Human Services preferred
  • Past work experience with persons with a disability
  • Experience supporting students who present challenging behavior, and implementation of positive behavior strategies
  • CPR and first aid training preferred
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, including pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and twisting.
  • Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of the position

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Demonstrate an intuitive sense for addressing challenging behavior in a positive manner
  • Demonstrate the ability to understand the function of behaviors, how adult behavior influences student behavior and student behavior influences adult behavior
  • Able to consistently follow a student’s specific Behavior Intervention Plan in a one-to-one, small group or classroom setting
  • Able to model for district staff the implementation of specifically identified interventions, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching to staff
  • Willing to be trained in crisis prevention techniques and physical intervention, and perform approved physical intervention techniques when required
  • Capable of understanding the vital role of de-escalation strategies, and knowing when and how to use them
  • Able to understand the intent of a BIP and the interventions, and ask for clarification when needed
  • Competence with timely and accurate data collection and documentation to reflect implementation of the BIP
  • Demonstrate flexibility and the ability to take verbal direction
  • Reflect on and utilizes feedback to increase intervention effectiveness
  • Respectful of student, parents and staff at all levels, and work well in a team for the good of the student
  • Utilize an established communication process
  • Good organizational skills
  • Punctual
  • Demonstrate strict adherence to confidentiality

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment Date:    Immediately pending Board approval and successful completion of employee entrance drug screening and background checks.

Employment Type:   Non-union, at-will position, 37.5 hours per week, Monday through Friday

Work Schedule:        School year with additional training days to equal 195 work days

Work Day:               8:00 am – 4:00 pm

Salary Range:          $14.00 - $20.00 per hour
