Custodian- Full Time - Floating

POSITION SUMMARY

This position is responsible for general housekeeping conditions and minor maintenance of assigned buildings. Individual will report directly to the Supervisor of Maintenance and Custodians.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have a valid Michigan driver’s license, in good standing
  • Must be physically able to bend, stoop, climb, reach, work in high places, move heavy items and lift in excess of sixty (60) pounds.
  • Experience in operating high-speed floor polishers, industrial vacuum and carpet shampooing equipment
  • Experience in operating hi-lo equipment preferred
  • Able to work outside during all weather for snow shoveling & salt application
  • Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of the position

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain assigned buildings in a clean, neat and sanitary condition.
  2. Adapt work schedule around students, staff and the public.
  3. Perform minor maintenance and other tasks as assigned.
  4. Responsible for room setups, as defined for scheduled functions.
  5. Assist groups and visitors using the building, as necessary. Understanding of who is in buildings and what their needs are.
  6. Thorough cleaning of assigned area on a daily basis to include, but not limited to, dusting all surfaces, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, cleaning windows and emptying waste receptacles.
  7. Take extra time in cleaning restrooms and ensuring that everything is sanitized.
  8. Will take necessary steps to ensure building security.
  9. Responsible for cleaning and maintaining custodial equipment.
  10. Must be neat and clean in appearance and properly attired.
  11. Must be able to adapt to a flexible working schedule and act as a substitute custodian for all RESA facilities if required.
  12. Must be able to effectively communicate in writing and orally with co-workers and general public.
  13. Self-motivated, self-managed and an independent worker.
  14. Exercise sound judgment in making emergency decisions that are in the best interest of the RESA or those affected.
  15. Working knowledge of the care and maintenance of carpeting, terrazzo and tile flooring.
  16. Must be knowledgeable of chemicals and cleaning products and capable of following all product instructions regarding their use in a safe manner.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Employment Date:              As soon as position is filled, pending School Board approval and satisfactory completion of the pre-employment drug screen and background checks.

Schedule:                          Monday through Friday, 12 months per year (8-hour shift plus ½ hour lunch, start time will vary).                              

Salary and Fringes:              Hourly wage and benefit package per negotiated Teamsters Local No. 214 contract.
