Early Childhood Special Education Teacher – Early On and MMSE Program

 

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Early-On program serves children birth to three years of age. The successful candidate needs to be willing to work with a team using a primary service provider delivery model, and be willing to actively include parent education in each session. The focus of this position will be to provide services through Early-On sponsored activities which could be virtual or in person, individual or group through a home visiting model. Activities could include indoor or outdoor playgroups, PD training and family training opportunities. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will provide consultation, evaluation and coordination of services to children and their families. Services will be provided based on the best available evaluation data, research, evidence-based practices, expert professional judgment, and consideration of individual needs. The Early Childhood Special Education Teacher will provide services to children who have conditions that are cognitively, physically, developmentally, or emotionally challenging while focusing on improving their ability to apply knowledge and skills to function productively in their environment and to communicate their wants and needs.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Special Education.
  • BK, ZA or ZS endorsement in Early Childhood Special Education.
  • Teacher Consultant Approval preferred, but not required, or ability to receive that approval under Michigan Special Education Administrative Rules. 
  • Successful classroom experience working with students with special needs.
  • The ability to properly utilize required assessment instruments and travel to families throughout St. Clair County. 
  • The Early Childhood Special Education teacher is also required to properly operate required office equipment such as a personal computer, fax machine, copier and the like.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.
  • In this role you must be able to bend, twist, stoop, squat and lift up to 50 pounds in assisting students.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Screening, evaluation, and assessment to develop IFSP goals.
  2. Synthesize evaluation results into a comprehensive written report, which reflects strengths and barriers to a child’s participation in their environment.
  3. Schedule students for evaluation and intervention home visits.
  4. Provide families and parents with programs and coaching in: self-help, child development, environmental adaptation, independence skills.
  5. Serve as a resource to parents to provide information regarding community services, professional organizations and school services when appropriate.
  6. Serve as a team member for METs, IFSPs and collaborates with school, family, physician and community agencies.
  7. Maintain equipment as needed.
  8. Adapt and modify the environment, equipment and materials including assistive technology as needed.
  9. Plan, coordinate, and conduct continuing education for educational personnel, parents, and students.
  10. Carry a caseload of students and provide family Coaching to assist with child growth and development.

  • Work cooperatively and creatively with the staff and community-at-large.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment Date:  Immediate, pending successful completion of entrance drug screening and background checks.

Work Schedule:       225-Day calendar, schedule aligned to school breaks

Salary Range:         Negotiated salary schedule

Fringes:                 Full family health, dental, and vision, life, LTD, paid leave, retirement

Work Day:              Staff hours may vary slightly based on provider schedule and family needs.  Typical day 8 am – 4:30 pm
