TEACHER AIDE

POSITION SUMMARY:

The teacher aide is under the direct supervision of the teacher.  She/he must be able to follow directions, be flexible in dealing with different groups and different personalities, and maintain an open and positive attitude.  A collaborative working relationship with the teacher is paramount.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school graduate or equivalent. Must be interested in gaining knowledge in child development, mental impairment, general and abnormal psychology.
  2. CPR and first aid training preferred.
  3. Past work experience with people who have cognitive impairments. Group home training      
  4. Valid Michigan driver’s license.
  5. Must be able to lift students, manipulate wheelchair bound students, including pulling, pushing, bending, stooping and twisting.
  6. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. (for new positions only)

 

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Carry out specific behavioral objectives for students.
  2. Assist in charting, counting and modifying inappropriate and maladaptive behaviors of some
  3. Assist students in personal self-help skills: toileting, grooming, eating, and dressing,
  4. Assist teacher in pre and post testing of individual students.
  5. Assist in receiving and delivering students to and from the buses.
  6. Attend in-service and staff meetings as requested.
  7. Assist in developing lesson plans and in preparing materials for instructions.
  8. Follow all rules and regulations identified in the Employee Handbook.
  9. Regular predictable attendance is an essential function of this position.

RELATED JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Assist in giving medication and maintaining medication charts.
  2. Collect and record money, forms, notes and other record keeping necessary for the room and the school.
  3. Assist in the maintenance of classroom and related supplies and materials.
  4. Assist in the maintenance and general housekeeping of the classroom and school.
  5. Assist in preparing room, bulletin boards and display cases for the room and center.

 

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Employment Date:      Pending Board approval and successful completion of employee entrance drug screening and background checks

Salary Range:              In accordance with negotiated bargaining agreement wage scale

Benefits:                      In accordance with negotiated bargaining agreement

Work Schedule:          School year    

Work Day:                  8:00 am – 3:20 pm
